RAVES: Fun-loving, intelligent, reasonably easy-going person who needs and wants to be more physically active and enjoys walks, travel to interesting places like museums and galleries, concerts, music and dancing (especially to the blues band my daughter belongs to), and some lectures.
I write (radio scripts for NPR, an online novel, poetry, journal) as often as I can.
Because I'm an old geek, I will be traveling, in the near future, to reservations in Oregon to work with homebound women who want to start online businesses. I've been to China and a few spots in Europe; I'd like to see Italy, Scotland, New Zealand, and maybe Russia, too. Since I'm only a retired English teacher, however, I don't have much extra moolah for travel and have to save ahead.
I am an art freak: My home is filled with the work of Native artists, which I especially enjoy collecting, but I like almost all art and rely on it to support and educate my inner knowing. I am a crafts person and have been known to have "stamping" parties so that we can share rubber stamps to make cards, bookmarks, and other artsy items. I serve on a couple of boards of directors, notably the executive board of the Native American Art Council for my city's art museum; I also produce their newsletter.
I'm known for my poetry potluck gatherings to which people bring food and poems that fit a theme (i.e. the blues).
I read voraciously: Science fiction, contemporary literature, poetry (of course), and some works on the web. I read about 20 books or so a month but can only endure the Sunday newspaper.
I love almost all music and especially enjoy the music of the world. I have a huge collection of Native American music because I did a radio script on the subject. I have music from China that I brought back and enjoy listening to now and then. I listen to classical music often. I also like rock - classics like the Beatles and bands of that ilk. I'm looking forward to singing in an all women's Peace choir this fall, if they deem my voice good enough.
I'm a heavy-duty Liberal, and proud of it; I've been known to march with like-minded souls a time or two.
My daughter, who is also my dearest friend in the world, is grown. I have three granddogs, a grandcat, and one grandhorse, a senior like me.
HOWLS: I'm a short but large woman. I know I should lose weight, but I put it off because I'm basically a hedonist at heart. Because I'm large doesn't necessarily mean I'm ugly. I have good hair, my eyes sparkle, and my ears don't hang low or outward.
I'm a fanatic non-smoker and tend to take every opportunity to tell smokers about the fact that, other than my daughter, I am the last living person in my immediate family because of lung cancer caused by smoking.
I don't indulge in junk foods and am, in fact, kind of persnickity about what I eat. I am partial to organically grown foods.
I'm an environmentalist; I tend to join groups that work for the planet.
Sometimes I tell a story more than once to get the point across.
My friends are dear to me, and I like spending time with them often.
I sometimes like to turn my music up really loud and sing along.
I tend to quietly take off without saying goodbye when I'm bored, interested in something else, worried, or scared.
I procrastinate.
I don't like being corrected in public.
I spend too much time on the computer.
I've been married twice. Honestly, the problem is that I'm very independent, say what I think most of the time, and am impatient with violence of any kind, narrow-mindedness and prejudice.
My Ideal Person:
If anyone out there can handle the RAVES and HOWLS noted above, it seems to me that we could have a great time together. I'm just looking for a friend who wants to enjoy life as much as possible.
