Kalaimakal is hopeful of her future today. "I love studying Mathematics in School. I want to go to a college and become an IAS officer," says Kalaimakal.
All this was not possible for her until a few years ago. Kalaimakal's slum was a hotbed of violence, gang wars and drug addiction. Through World Vision's child sponsorship programme, Kalaimakals life was changed.
"We now have access to toilets and water. We were provided with proper housing. We also have access to economic assistance, which was too difficult earlier. We get lot of awareness messages on health and education for children," added Rahini Kalaimakal's mother.
